Disaster Recovery - Backups

In this blog post I am going to talk about backups and disaster recovery. I was recently asked to talk about Disaster Recovery and what this meant for small businesses. I am going to talk about a few things related to protecting and backing up your data and recovering if the inevitable happens and you loose data or suffer a hard disk failure.

Drupal MailChimp integration

I'm often asked how to integrate MailChimp within your Drupal site. There are a few different options available, depending on what you are tying to achieve. MailChimp is a great resource for sending mass emails, whether just a newsletter, product update or notifications to registered users of an update to your site.

In this blog post I am going to describe a simple but common task of adding a user/visitor to your list on MailChimp. The list in this case is used for gathering users and adding them to newsletter list so that they can be sent a copy and receive vital updates. I have investigated various methods for integrating MailChimp and adding subscribers that are gathered on via a form on the website.

Review of 4 Directory Plugins for WordPress CMS

I’m asked a lot about the simplest way to create a directory listings database to add content and functionality to websites. There are lots of different options available of course, including the development of bespoke database software with tailored interfaces that are suited exactly to your audience. However a solution like this is not always needed and can often be simpler and easier than you think to implement using your favourite CMS.

In this blog post I am reviewing a selection of plugins that can be used on a Wordpress site to create a Business Directory Listings database. The plugins I’ve looked at can be built into an already functioning website, or incorporated into the design of a new site, however I’ve focused this time on easy integration into an already existing website.

Jetty Web Server on CentOS 6

This short blog post explains how to install Jetty Web Server from the tar archive on Centos 6.

Installing Jetty is quite straight forward and basically requires you to extract the tar archive to a location. You may then wish to create a separate system user to run the server. I chose to create a system user specifically for this task, it also helps restrict permissions.

Importance of Backups

This is a short blog post noting the importance of backups. Everybody goes on about them and we should perform backups, but the reality is that we don't we never think a hard drive failure or loss of data will occur or happen to us. Well it did and I was lucky I had some backups already but not that recent. I was also lucky that I caught the early warning signs of disk problems appearing with problems when booting. So a quick execute of a backup program and a few hours later I managed to backup my valuable data.
